OC Animal Care in Tustin is gearing up for a series of pet-focused events and adoption opportunities on September 26, including a free rabies clinic and various meet-and-greets for adoptable animals. The county-run animal shelter, located in Tustin, was closed previously in observance of Native American Day.
On September 26, residents can visit the shelter for a free rabies clinic to commemorate World Rabies Day. This event will provide the first 100 rabies vaccines free of charge for pet owners, while supplies last. There is a maximum limit of three vaccines per household for the clinic, which is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the shelter.
Later in the day, the shelter will host "Sittin' with Kittens" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event allows visitors to meet litters of kittens that have recently transitioned from foster care and are now ready for adoption into permanent homes.
Beyond the Tustin facility, OC Animal Care representatives will also be present at two off-site events on September 26 to facilitate adoptions in other parts of the county. The shelter will participate in Huntington Beach’s Pet Food Express Pet Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., where adoptable dogs and cats will be available at their booth. Concurrently, representatives will attend the Cypress Community Festival at Oak Knoll Park from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., featuring adoptable shelter dogs ready to greet prospective owners.
Several animals are currently available for adoption at OC Animal Care, including dogs and cats who came in as strays. Among them is Bastion, a dog who has been at the shelter for a little over two months. Staff notations describe Bastion as a friendly dog who thrives with slow introductions. He is reportedly comfortable spending time alone and does not require constant attention. Bastion already knows how to "sit" on command and enjoys receiving pets. Shelter staff suggest he would be best suited for a home where he can be the only pet. Bastion is also part of the shelter’s September adoption promotion, which waives adoption fees for all dogs 25 pounds and over.
Jasper, another dog, has been at the shelter for about a month. Shelter staff indicate that Jasper can be timid initially, but once he has an opportunity to warm up, he becomes an affectionate pet who enjoys attention and long walks. Jasper is also available as part of the September adoption promotion, benefiting from the waived adoption fees for larger dogs.
Other animals awaiting adoption include Annie Oakley, a four-year-old dog who arrived as a stray about a month ago. Jason, a two-year-old dog, has been at the shelter for about two months after coming in as a stray; shelter staff have few details to offer about his specific personality. Sting, a cat, has been at the shelter for approximately four months, having also arrived as a stray, with shelter staff noting a lack of detailed information regarding his personality. All these animals are currently available for adoption.
OC Animal Care, the county-run animal shelter in Tustin, is open daily for adoption visits from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During these hours, visitors are welcome to walk through the kennel areas to view the animals available for adoption.
