Proud Mary's Restaurant & Lounge closed its doors last week after operating in Dana Point Harbor for nearly half a century, according to a local news report. Owner Steve Zdrakas told a local news report that the hardest part of the closure was saying goodbye to customers and employees.
The restaurant originally opened in 1977 under founder Mary Merrill before Zdrakas purchased it in 2005. After a 2007 fire destroyed the building, it was rebuilt and reopened in 2009. Zdrakas told a local news report that he hopes to reopen the establishment in Dana Point or San Clemente.
