Trestles is a cluster of breaks — from north to south: Cottons, Barbed Wires, Uppers, InBetweens, Lowers, Middles, and Church. Lowers is a cobblestone point break widely described as the best of the group. It hosted the WSL Finals one-day title decider 2021–2024 (won by Gabriel Medina & Carissa Moore in 2021, Filipe Toledo & Stephanie Gilmore in 2022, Toledo & Caroline Marks in 2023, and John John Florence & Caitlin Simmers in 2024), and it will host the surfing competition at the 2028 Summer Olympics. Surfer/Surfertoday sources report it works best on a south/southwest swell with light east winds, ideal around 4–6 feet.
Practical facts. No vehicle access — a roughly 20–30 minute walk (or bike) down the trail from the Cristianitos/El Camino Real parking. Paid parking; street parking on Cristianitos when the lot is full. Part of San Onofre State Beach (State Parks), 6 a.m.–10 p.m. Restrooms limited. Dogs not permitted on the beach.
Seasonality and crowds. Consistently crowded, especially on good south swells; fall is reported as prime.
Know before you go. It's a long walk with your board; respect the localism at peak; the wave is a point break that "keeps going."
